This was my second attempt to read Alexander McCall Smith and now I'm sure that I don't enjoy his story telling. His writing is good, but I didn't get anything out of the book. The funny moments were funny but not anything special. The characters were quirky but not engaging or entertaining. A book such as this which is character driven as there's barely any real plot needs character development/growth and that just didn't happen in these pages.
I found it tolerable only because I read this as my bed-time reading, that's the only way I was able to finish it with my brain in the process of switching to the off position.
